WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg Knights men's soccer team will welcome in the St. Olaf Oles Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 4:30 p.m.
The Knights (2-4 overall) are coming off of a weekend road trip that saw a 2-0 loss to Washington University in St. Louis on Friday, followed by a 1-0 victory over Westminster College on Sunday. Sophomore forward
Jack Palen (Norwalk) was the Knights lone goal scorer this weekend, giving the Knights the 1-0 lead over Westminster at the 78:37-minute mark.
The Knights are led this season in scoring from senior forwards
Ben Johnson (Marion) and
Ayo Adebayo (Rochester, Minn.). The first half of matches have been where the Knights find most of their offensive work, as they are outscoring their opponents 6-3 in that half on 31 total shots. The second half is where teams have been able to match the offensive intensity of the Knights, where Wartburg is being out-scored 3-1.
The Oles (3-3) are coming off back-to-back victories over Bethel University and Saint Mary's University (Minn.). The Oles are led in scoring by Will Douglas with three goals on the season. The Oles are coached by longtime head coach Kurt Anderson, who is in the midst of his 30
th season with St. Olaf. Over the course of his tenure, Anderson has compiled a record of 299-199-41, good for 18
th among active Division III coaches in victories.
The Knights and Oles have faced one another a total of 14 times throughout each team's history, with the Knights owning an 8-6 overall record over the Oles. The last meeting between the two programs took place on Sept. 20, 2017, where the Knights were victorious in a 2-0 match.
