WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College men's soccer team took care of business at home on Wednesday evening by defeating St. Olaf College 3-0.
The Knights (3-4 overall) took an early lead over the Oles (3-4) on a goal from senior forward
Ben Johnson (Marion) goal that came off of a crosser from fellow senior
Daniel Luzindya (Cedar Rapids). From that goal on, the offensive intensity in the match belonged to the Knights, who attempted eight first-half shots and controlled a majority of the possession in the game. The Knights would take their 1-0 lead into the half.
Senior forward
Ayo Adebayo (Rochester, Minn.) would get the Knights on the board a second time with a goal coming off of a cross from sophomore forward
Jack Palen (Norwalk). Palen would score his own goal minutes later after a ball hit off the crossbar and sat right in front of the goal, giving Palen the easy kick-in. The Knights would close out the victory 3-0 and advance to 3-4 on the season.
Senior goalkeeper
Paul Koebke Barsic (Madison, Wis.) improves to 3-0 on the year after tonight's victory. Koebke Barsic racked up five saves in the 90 minutes of action, improving his season total to 16.
The Knights will be back in action this weekend to take on conference rival Coe College on Saturday, Sept.22 at 7:30 p.m.
