Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Johnson Scores Three Goals to Lead Knights Past Kohawks

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Wartburg Knights men's soccer team scored six goals en route to a 6-0 victory over the Coe College Kohawks, extending the Knights win streak over the Kohawks to seven games straight, dating back to Oct. 6, 2012.

The star of the night for the Knights (4-4 overall; 1-0 ARC) was senior forward Ben Johnson (Marion), who delivered with three goals, two of which came in the second period. The other three Knight goals were scored by senior Daniel Luzindya (Cedar Rapids), sophomore Jack Palen (Norwalk), and freshman Kevin Duque (Storm Lake).

Things got started for the Knights early with Luzindya scoring at the 10:17-minute mark, followed by Johnson's first goal only a mere six minutes later. Three minutes from there, Palen scored to give the Knights a 3-0 lead going into the 20th minute of the match. Before the half came to an end, the Knights would score one more time off of Duque's goal, which was assisted by junior midfielder Nicholas Hubacz. The Knights took their 4-0 lead into the half.

The second started off strong, as Johnson would score his second goal of the game off of a Luzindya assist at the 51:12 mark, followed by Johnson's third and final goal for the Knights only five minutes later. Johnson's season total for goals scored this year stands at seven, only one away from his career high of eight, which was set in his junior year.

On the game, the Knights out-shot the Kohawks (0-7, 0-1) 20-2, attempted eight shots on goal to Coe's zero, and attempted four corner kicks in comparison to Coe's one.

The Knights will travel back to Waverly to face the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m.
