Knights Earn Victory on the Road vs. Augsburg

Brandon Lindholm

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Wartburg College Knights women's soccer team hit the road to take on the Augsburg University Auggies and came away with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday night.

The Knights (5-3 overall) got things kicked off midway through the 20th minute of the contest, when senior forward Nicole Adair (Reinbeck) scored on a header coming from senior Alyssa Drewelow (Cedar Rapids). The goal is Adair's fifth of the season, leaving her only one away from tying her season career high of six goals.

The Knights would only have to go minutes later before finding the back of the net again, when Drewelow scored her third goal of the season on a 25-yard shot that drilled the upper right corner of the net. The Auggies (3-4; 1-1 conf.) responded just over a minute later with a goal from Ashley St. Aubin. The Knights would take their 2-1 lead into the half.

The red-hot Knight offense continued its display merely three minutes into the second half, as freshmen forward Joy Smith (Polk City) scored from 15-yards out on a pass from Emily Fontana. Smith and the rest of the Knights would showcase some solid defense over the rest of the second period, escaping from Minneapolis with a victory.

The Knights will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 22, as they take on American Rivers Conference foe Coe College at 5 p.m.
