CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Wartburg Knights women's soccer team secured their first win over Coe College since Oct. 2016, as they defeated the Kohakws 4-0 in the Knights first conference matchup.
The Knights (6-3 overall; 1-0 ARC) got things started midway through the 20
th minute of the match, after senior defender
Jillian Huser (Waverly) scored off of a header from an assist from fellow senior
Nicole Adair (Reinbeck). The goal stands as Huser's first of the year, with the assist becoming Adair's third of the season. The Knights would score again before the half, when junior
Gabby Rohrer (Watertown, Wis.) delivered off of a corner kick in the 40
th minute. The Knights would take the 2-0 lead into the half.
The second half got off to a good start for the Knights, as senior forward
Alyssa Drewelow (Cedar Rapids) got things started on a goal coming off of an assist from sophomore
Emily Fontana (Ankeny) at the 64:12-minute mark. The Knights would score a final time in the 78
th minute, as Rohrer scored a second time in the contest off of a corner kick.
On the game, the Knights out-shot the Kohawks 17 to four. Goalkeepers
Marissa Lopez (Ankeny) and
Hayley Krogh (Hudson) posted a shutout for the Knights, with both compiling a save a piece.
The Knights will return back to action on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. when they take on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
