WAVERLY, Iowa – Behind two goals from freshmen forward
Joy Smith (Polk City), the Wartburg College Knights defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds 3-1 on Wednesday night.
Smith got the game off to a fast start for the Knights, as she scored her first goal of the night merely seven minutes and fifty-three seconds into the contest off on assist from sophomore
Anna Rood (Ames). Just over ten minutes later, Smith was back at it as she scored her second goal of the game off of an
Nicole Adair (Reinbeck) cross that landed perfectly in front of the goal, missing the sliding goalie for the easy kick-in. The goals are Smith's fourth and fifth of the season, tying her with Adair for the lead on the team.
The Knights (7-3 overall; 1-0 ARC) took the 2-0 lead into the half. While not leading at the half, the Blugolds (3-4) led the Knights in shots attempts (7-5), but trailed in corner kicks (5-2) and saves (3-2).
The Knights padded their lead on a goal from freshmen
Hailey Osburn (Ankeny), her second of the year, off of an assist from senior forward
Megan Cowherd (Bettendorf). Eau Claire would get on the board in the 88
th minute, as Kaya Jedrzejewski scored off of an Addie Johnson assist.
