CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights men and women's soccer teams will be in action this Saturday as they are both slated to face the Coe College Kohawks, with the women taking the field at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
The Knights women's soccer team (5-3 overall) are coming off back-to-back wins, most recently over Augsburg University on Wednesday night. The Knights were led from seniors
Nicole Adair (Reinbeck),
Alyssa Drewelow (Cedar Rapids), and freshmen
Joy Smith (Polk City), who each scored for the Knights in way of their 3-1 victory. On the season, the Knights are averaging just over two goals per game and are led as a team by Adair, who has scored five goals to date.
The Coe College women's soccer Kohawks (5-2-1) are riding a four-game win streak in advance of their matchup with Wartburg. On the season, the Kohawks are 1-2-1 while defending their home field, while the Knights boast a 4-1 road record. The Kohawks women's soccer team is coached by Michael Prunty, who is in his second season as head coach and carries a record of 17-6-4 in his time at Coe College. Prunty is assisted by Jason Witt, Meg Goodson, and Johnathan Lenhart.
The Kohawks and Knights women's soccer teams have met 34 times throughout their histories, with the Knights getting the better of the matchups by a record of 17-14-3, including a record of 6-8 when playing at Coe.
The Knights men's soccer team (3-4 overall) are riding a two-game win streak, with the most recent win coming over St. Olaf College on Wednesday. The Knights were led in that match from goals by seniors
Ayo Adebayo (Rochester, Minn.),
Ben Johnson (Marion) , and by sophomore
Jack Palen (Norwalk). The trio of players also lead the Knights in goals this season, with Adebayo and Johnson at four and Palen at three. As a team, the Knights have outscored their opponents 11 to seven in the seven contests they've played in.
The Kohawks men's soccer team (0-6) is searching for their first victory this year. In this early season stretch, the Kohawks have only been able to put together two goals as a team. The Kohawks are coached by Matt Travis, who is in the midst of his first year as head coach. Travis is assisted by Lee Owen and Zach Serovy, who are also in their first year at their respective positions.
The Knights and Kohawks men's soccer programs have met a total of 33 times throughout their respective histories, with the Knights holding on to the series advantage with a combined all-time record of 18-15. The Knights have won the previous six meetings by a total score of 23-4.
