MONMOUTH, Ill.-- The No. 13 Wartburg football team (1-1 overall) fell 24-18 to Monmouth (1-1) Saturday.

The Scots scored on their first drive of the game to take the early 7-0 lead. The Knights sliced the margin to one in the second quarter as they recovered a fumble deep in Monmouth's territory and compiled a two-play drive for the score.
Early in the third quarter, the Orange and Black were credited with a safety to take the one-point lead, 8-7. On their ensuing possession, Wartburg used a six-play, 75-yard drive which culminated in a 14-yard touchdown catch by junior Will Hasken (Miles) to extend the lead to 15-7.
After a Scots touchdown and a career-long 36-yard field goal from freshman Kain Eagle (Denver), the score was 18-14 in favor of the Knights. Monmouth scored on its next possession to regain the lead for good. It held the Orange and Black to two punts and a turnover on downs to seal the win.

Senior Matt Sacia (Eldridge) threw for 252 yards. He has now finished with triple-digit passing yards in 21-straight games and in 23 of his last 24, which dates back to the 2016 season. Sacia moved into fourth on the career leader list with 495 completions to date. He surpassed Reed Hoskins' 489.
Junior Kolin Schulte (Anamosa) had a career-best six receptions for a career-high 109 yards. Sophomore JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.) saw some playing time on the offensive side of the ball, and had four catches for 89 yards.
Senior Marcus Johnson (Huxley) led the defense with 14 total tackles. Classmate Brady Heusinkvelt (Denver) had a team-best 2.5 TFLs, and was second with a career-high 13 tackles.
Wartburg returns to the field next Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts Buena Vista to open the American Rivers Conference portion of its schedule.
