No. 6 Men's Soccer will face No. 3 Simpson in the A-R-C First Round on Saturday

WAVERLY, Iowa - The Wartburg men's soccer team will head to Indianola on Saturday, Nov. 2 to face Simpson College in the first round of the American Rivers Conference Tournament.

Wartburg Knights (8-7-2, 4-4-0 A-R-C) vs. Simpson Storm (15-3-2, 5-2-1 A-R-C)

 A-R-C Tournament Notes
  • Last season, the Knights hosted Nebraska Wesleyan in the first round. The game ended in a double overtime 0-0 draw with Wartburg advancing on PKs, 4-2, and advanced onto the semifinals
  • Luther hosted Wartburg for the 2018 A-R-C Tournament semifinals where the Norse took a 2-1 win.
  • In 2017, Simpson hosted the Orange and Black in the first round and took a 3-1 win over the Knights. 
  • Luther hosted Wartburg in the 2016 first round where the Norse had a 2-1 victory in overtime
  • Simpson hosted Wartburg in the 2015 first round where the match ended in a 1-1 double overtime tie. The Storm advanced on a 6-5 shootout
  • In 2014, Wartburg hosted Luther and advanced after a 1-0 victory 
  • The Knights faced Loras in the 2014 semifinals and where the game ended in a 2-2 double overtime tie. After a 5-4 penalty kick advantage, the Orange and Black were IIAC Tournament Champions and qualified for the NCAA Tournament 
  • In 2013, the Knights had a 1-0 double overtime victory over the Luther Norse in first round and advances to the semifinals
  • Loras hosted Wartburg in the semifinals where the Knights fell 1-0 in overtime but advanced onto the NCAA Tournament 
  • Waverly hosted Simpson in the 2012 first round where the Storm took a 1-0 win
  • Dubuque hosted Wartburg in the 2011 first round where tge game ended in a 2-2 tie and Wartburg advanced on a 5-4 shootout
  • Luther hosted the Knights in the 2011 semifinals where the Norse took a 2-0 victory
  • Wartburg faced Central in the first round where the Knights advanced on a 2-1 victory over the Dutch
  • The Knights fell to Loras 2-1 in the 2011 semifinals 
  • Wartburg was conference champions in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2014

Wartburg
  • The Orange and Black finished the regular season with an overall record of 8-7-2 and was 4-4-0 in conference
  • Wartburg tallied 24 goals with 12 players notching at least one goal
  • Sophomore Kevin Duque tallied five goals for the Knights 
  • Senior Nathan Feiner contributed four assists on goal
  • Freshman goalie Brennon Woody earned 54 saves in goal his first season

Simpson
  • Simpson ended the regular season with an overall record of 15-3-2 and 5-2-1 in conference
  • The Storm tallied 53 goals this season
  • Senior Tanner Alderson and Junior Enrique Idehen each notched 10 goals for Simpson 
  • The Storm have an average of 20.1 shots per game

Last Time Out

The Knights earned a 1-0 road victory over the Luther Norse on Tuesday, Oct. 29. Ten minutes into the game, Brady Arens scored the lone goal of the game, his second goal of the season, off an assist from a corner kick by Nick Schwake. Wartburg's defense prevented Luther from tallying any goals for the duration of the game. The Norse had a 12-6 shot advantage with six on goal and a 5-2 corner kick advantage.
