WAVERLY - The Wartburg men's basketball team opened its annual Buzz Levick Tournament Friday with an 82-69 victory over Iowa Wesleyan University to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Starters
Camry Moore and
AJ Becker led the Knights with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Wartburg scored 24 points off IWU turnovers and recorded a season-high 44 rebounds and eight three-point field goals made. The Knights shot 33-of-64 from the field and 8-of-16 from beyond the arc.
Tyler Zumbach and
Spencer Touro shared the team lead with seven rebounds each, while
Jack Molstead led the five assists.
With just under four minutes remaining in the first half, Iowa Wesleyan took a 30-29 lead, its last advantage of the night. Wartburg answered on a 9-3 run to take a 38-32 lead into the locker room.
The Knights shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the second half and extended its lead into double digits early into the final 20 minutes and maintained at least a 10-point cushion during the final 14 minutes.
Cornell College defeated University of Minnesota-Morris 94-90 in game one of the tournament. The Knights will take on Cornell for the second time in a week at 4 p.m. tomorrow, while UM-Morris and Iowa Wesleyan will face off at 2 p.m. during the consolation matchup.
