Wartburg Looks to Upset No. 1 Nebraska Wesleyan at Home

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights (15-7 overall, 9-4 A-R-C) will look to play upset when they host the defending national champion and No. 1 Nebraska Wesleyan Prairie Wolves (21-1, 12-1) on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Knights lost the previous match this season, 89-73 on Jan. 12.

The Series
Nebraska Wesleyan owns the all-time series lead at 7-4. The last Knights victory over the Prairie Wolves came on Nov. 30, 2016, in a 96-76 effort at home. Wartburg has lost the past five games against Nebraska Wesleyan.

The Orange and Black are coming off of an 87-79 victory over Luther College on Wednesday night. Senior guard Jaran Sabus (Urbandale) leads the team and conference in scoring at 21.8 points/game, with senior guard Cam Kickbush (Reinbeck) trailing at 16.2 points and sophomore guard Max Smith Drahos (Cedar Rapids) third on the team at 12.4 points/game. Sabus' 5.9 rebounds/game led the team, with senior center Josh Gehling (Dyersville) second on the team with 5.3 rebounds/game. The Knights are 8-2 at home this season, including a near-perfect 5-1 against the conference at home.

The Prairie Wolves are coming off of a 102-71 victory over Simpson College on Wednesday, their fifth game scoring over 100 points. Nate Schimonitz leads the team in scoring with 17.4 points/game, while Ryan Garver is second at 16 points/game. Cooper Cook leads the squad in rebounding with 6.5 rebounds/game, while Clay Reimers is second at 6.2 rebounds/game and Garver at third with 6 rebounds/game.
