ST. LOUIS-- The Wartburg softball team (10-4 overall) dropped both games Saturday at Washington University in St. Louis' Tournament. The Knights fell 7-5 to DePauw and 6-4 against host-WashU.

Against the Tigers, the Orange and Black took the early 2-0 lead in the first as senior Liz Roby-Miklus (Ankeny) scored on a groundout and freshman Olivia Brecht (Center Point) plated senior Kailee O'Brien (Altoona) on a sac fly.

DePauw tallied five runs in the bottom of the frame and two in its next at-bats to take the 7-2 lead after two innings. Wartburg sliced the lead to two in the fourth as freshman Haley Barkau (Denver) scored on a groundout and senior Brenna Gray (Waterloo) and Roby-Miklus later scored on a fielding error.

The Knights were retired in order over the next two innings, and attempted a late rally as they had runners on first and second with one out. The next batter unfortunately flew out to second to end the threat.

Roby-Miklus, Brecht, and senior Morgan Goedken (Iowa City) each had two hits in the game.

Against the Bears, freshman Sydney Illg (Grimes) gave the Orange and Black the early 1-0 lead with her solo shot. WashU had the go-ahead run in their next at-bat before Wartburg tied it in the bottom of the frame on a sac fly from sophomore Megan Ritter (Newton).

The Bears tallied four in the third, thanks in part to a three-run homer. The Knights scored their final runs in the third on a bases loaded walk and the sixth on an RBI single from Illg.

Roby-Miklus, O'Brien and Illg all had two hits in this game. Roby-Miklus had two stolen bases in each game to extend her lead as the program's career leader in this category.

All three teams return to action tomorrow.
