Knights Blanked In Doubleheader Against Norse

Brandon Lindholm

DECORAH, Iowa – The Wartburg College Knights baseball squad (6-15 overall, 3-5 A-R-C) were swept in doubleheader action against the Luther College Norse (11-10, 4-1) on Tuesday afternoon, falling 10-0 in game one and 7-0 in game two.

Luther started off game one with a three-run first inning, highlighted by a RBI single from Luke Plunkett. Luther added another four in the third inning off of a RBI single, a two RBI triple and a sac groundout to end the inning up 7-0.

The Norse followed their third inning with a one-run fourth inning off of Plunkett's second RBI single of the day to push the lead to 8-0. Luther scored their final two runs of the game at the bottom of the eighth, effectively ending the game by way of the 10-run rule.

The second game of the doubleheader saw the Knights fail to record a hit, as Luther pitcher John Colucci III pitched a no-hitter in nine innings of work, striking out four along the way. Luther scored their first run at the bottom of the fourth off of a RBI groundout to sophomore Ethan Hayes (Cedar Falls).

The Norse scored their next six runs at the eighth inning, highlighted by a two-run RBI single by Jake Halverson to extend the lead to 7-0, where it would stand as the final.

The Knights are back in action beginning on Friday, April 5 when they welcome in the Coe College Kohawks for a weekend three-game series.
