WAVERLY, Iowa – The Wartburg women's soccer team opened its 2019 season with a 3-1 victory over Macalester College Friday afternoon at Wartburg Soccer Field.
The Knights overcame an early 1-0 deficit, responding with a trio of unanswered goals to take down the Scots.
Wartburg outshot Macalester 29-1, along with an 11-1 corner kick advantage.
Hailey Osburn, Kate Luers, and Alexa Coller tallied goals for the Knights, with the game-winner from Luers coming at the 56th minute mark of the second half. Coller's goal was a career first for the freshman native of Center Point.
Joy Smith led the Orange and Black with eight shots, landing six on target. Goalkeeper Marissa Lopez earned the win in net for Wartburg.

Wartburg heads to Galesburg, Ill. on Sunday, Sept. 1 for its first road test of the year, facing non-conference opponent Knox College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
