GALESBURG, Ill. - The Wartburg women's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory at Knox College during its first road contest of the season Sunday afternoon, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Two first half tallies for the Knights and an 11-4 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes guided Wartburg to victory.Â
The sophomore duo of
Joy Smith and
Kate Luers gave the Orange and Black a 2-0 lead, Smith scoring just under four minutes into the match. Luers recorded her second goal of the season, the eventual game-winner, at the 32nd minute mark.Â
Wartburg maintained its two-goal cushion for the majority of the second half, until Knox broke the shutout late, breaking through at the 86th minute.Â
Marissa Lopez notched four saves while earning her second win in goal on the season. Six Knights picked up at least two shots, three coming from
Katie Berglund.
The Knights return home for a two-game stretch next week, taking on a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents in Augsburg University and the College of Saint Benedict.Â
