WAVERLY, Iowa - The Wartburg volleyball team opened its 2019 home schedule Tuesday, Sept. 10 inside Levick Arena, hosting the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The Knights improved to 5-3 overall with a 3-1 win over the Eagles.
After taking a 2-0 lead with a 25-18 win in the first set, followed by a 25-19 second set victory, UWL bounced back in the third (28-26) with to trim the Wartburg lead to 2-1.
The Knights closed out the match in the fourth set, forcing eight Eagle errors and tallying 14 kills. Three-straight Wartburg kills followed by a serving ace from
Katie Foster gave the Knights an 18-12 advantage, giving leeway for at least a five-point lead for the rest of the match and closing out the fourth with a 25-18 win.
Wartburg and UWL each recorded 96 digs, a season-high for the Orange and Black. The Knights led in kills, aces, blocks, and assists while hitting .175 compared to a .113 clip for UWL.
Kylie Bildstein led the attack with 12 kills, followed by 11 from
Jayme Willemssen and 10 from
Zaiah Quirk.
Katie Foster racked up a season-high 37 digs.
