Men's Soccer Travels to Simpson for First Conference Game

WAVERLY, Iowa- The Wartburg men's soccer team travels to Simpson College on Saturday to play the first conference game of the season.
 
Saturday, Sept. 28 – 7 pm – Buxton Stadium 
Wartburg Knights (3-1-2, 0-0 A-R-C) at Simpson College (8-1-0, 0-0 A-R-C)
 
Matchup Notes
  • Last season the Knights had a 1-0 victory over the Storm
  • In the past nine years Wartburg has won five games, lost two and tied twice with Simpson
  • In 2010, the Orange and Black's 3-0 victory led them to its fourth conference title scoring three goals in the second half and having a 22-13 shot advantage 
Wartburg
  • The Knights have scored nine goals so far in the 2019 season, averaging 1.50 per game
  • Wartburg came back to win its season opener versus Westminster 3-1 in 2 OT with Caleb Halleran tallying two goals in the second half tying the game and Kevin Duque scoring the game-winning goal at the end of the 99th minute.
  • The Orange and Black tied 1-1 with No. 12/15 ranked St. Thomas 
Simpson
  • The Storm started off the 2019 season with two wins, scoring seven goals total and preventing any competition from scoring
  • Gustavus Adolphus is Simpson's only loss this season where the Storm fell 6-1
  • Simpson has scored 28 goals this season, averaging 3.11 goals per-game 
Last Time Out
The Knights endured their first loss of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 24 when they fell 1-0 to St. Olaf in overtime when the Oles scored at the 99-minute mark.
