INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Wartburg men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Simpson in its first conference game of the season.
After a scoreless first and second half, the game went into double overtime. The Storm scored the game-winning goal at the 100-minute mark.
Simpson outshot Wartburg 21-4 and had a 12-0 corner kick advantage, but the Knights' defense held off the Storm from tallying any points until the final minutes of the game.
"By any measure, that was a really competitive college soccer game. Their directness and power leads to a lot of set pieces," said head coach
Mike Madigan. "I thought we dealt with those well, and found our own way to create chances throughout the game. Our young team will continue to grow, and we look forward to the challenges ahead."
The Knights head to Platteville, Wis. on Tuesday, Oct. 1 to play UW-Platteville.
