WAVERLY, Iowa - The Wartburg men's soccer team held off the Macalester Scots for a 2-1 victory at home Friday evening.
After a scoreless first half,
Devin Eby scored the first goal of the game at the 58 minute mark. Macalester responded 12 minutes later with its lone goal of the game, tying the game at 1-1.
Kevin Duque scored his second game-winning goal of the year just under the 79th minute, giving Wartburg the 2-1 win. Macalester nearly tied the game with minutes remaining, but it was negated with an offsides call.
Brennon Woody improved to 2-0 in goal, making eight saves. Macalester outshot Wartburg 13-11, while the Knights held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Knights, now 2-0 overall, travel to No. 12/15 University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.
