ST. PAUL, Minn.- The Wartburg men's soccer team finished in a 1-1 draw at No. 12/15-ranked University of St. Thomas Sunday afternoon, moving its overall record to 2-0-1 on the season.
After a scoreless first half in which the Orange and Black outshot the Tommies 5-1, Wartburg broke through early in the second.
Devin Eby scored the lone goal for the Knights, his second this season five minutes into the second frame, with the assist from
Caleb Halleran.
St. Thomas led 11-3 in shots during the second half, and tied the game late in regulation. About six minutes before the 90 minutes were over, Halvor Houg scored the only goal for the Tommies, tying the game up and sending it into overtime.
During the first overtime, St. Thomas had a one shot advantage, while Wartburg had a two shot advantage in the second overtime. Both teams were awarded one corner kick in OT-2 but were unable to convert.
Brennon Woody tallied four saves in goal and is now 2-0-1 in net.
"While we are disappointed to concede the late goal, we're proud of the performance," said head coach
Mike Madigan. "Today clearly illustrated our potential and has us excited for the opportunities ahead."
The Knights will travel to St. Peter, Minn. on Friday to play Gustavus Adolphus College.
