CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Wartburg men's basketball team suffered a two-point loss in overtime to American Rivers Conference rival Coe, falling 94-92.
The Knights trailed behind the Kohawks for the start of the game, when a three by sophomore
Drew Olson gave the Orange and Black a point lead with 12:08 remaining.
Less than a minute later, sophomore
Davis Roquet connected a layup to give Wartburg its biggest lead of the half.
With 20 seconds left in the half, Coe made two free throws to advance the Kohawks to a six-point lead heading into the locker rooms.
After starting the second trailing by seven, the Knights came back to tie the second and send the game into overtime.
A layup by senior
Camry Moore at the 16:46 mark put the Knights ahead by two. Both teams went back and forth in scoring until a three by Coe with 1:19 left gave the Kohawks a three point lead.
Freshman
Jack Molstead responded with a three seconds later to tie up the score and sent the game into overtime.Â
The Knights and Kohawks were neck-in-neck scoring. Coe connected two free throws with five seconds remaining to hand Wartburg a conference loss.
Five Knights scored in the double-digits with junior
Ryan Stulken notching 18 points, senior
Tyler Zumbach scored 17, Molstead recorded 13 points followed by senior
Jacob Kuhlemeier with 12 points and junior
Max Smith Drahos rounded out 10. Five other Knights scored with 31 points coming from the bench.
Wartburg was 35-of-57 in field goal shooting and 12-14 at the free throw line. The Orange and Black tallied a total of 35 rebounds, six blocks and seven steals.
Next up, the Knights head to Indianola to face conference rival Simpson on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.Â
