INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Wartburg men's basketball team suffered an American Rivers Conference road loss Wednesday evening, falling 71-65 at Simpson College.
With the loss, the Knights drop to 3-5 during conference play, while the Storm improve to 3-5.
Freshman guard
Jack Molstead was one of two Knights to score in double figures, leading Wartburg with a season-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 5-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Drew Olson shot 4-6, adding 10 points off the bench.
Jacob Kuhlemeier led the team with six rebounds.
In a story of two halves, the Knights claimed a 43-31 halftime advantage, yet saw their lead dissipate throughout the final 20 minutes to concede the six point setback. Wartburg shot 57 percent from the field in the first half and lost in touch in the second, shooting 33 percent.
A pair of Molstead jumpers twice gave the Orange & Black a 12-point advantage near the end of the first half, their largest lead of the game.
The Storm came out of the gates strong in the second half, knotting the game at 47-47 six minutes in on a 16-4 run. From then on, Wartburg was unable to claim larger than a five-point lead. With under two minutes remaining, Simpson tied the game at 65-65 and then capitalized on pair of back-to-back baskets to put the game out of reach.
