WAVERLY, Iowa - The Wartburg men's basketball team suffered a 91-67 loss to American Rivers Conference rival Buena Vista Wednesday.
In the first half, the Knights and Beavers were neck-in-neck scoring until a three by Buena Vista at the 11:22 minute mark sent the Beavers ahead by 10.
Less than a minute later, a three by sophomore
Drew Olson brought the game within seven. Freshman
Jack Molstead connected back-to-back threes to bring the Knights within a point with 8:57 remaining in the half.
A minute later, a dunk by junior
Ryan Stulken gave the Orange and Black a point lead.
Buena Vista responded and broke away to take a seven point lead heading into the locker rooms after connecting a layup with a second remaining.
The Beavers continued to take the lead in the second, making 21-of-43 shots in field goal shooting and scoring 100% at the free throw line.
Molstead led the Orange and Black with 17 points, followed by junior
Max Smith Drahos who tallied 13. Ten other Knights scored with 28 points coming from the bench.
Wartburg was 28-of-54 in field goal shooting and 2-5 at the free throw line. The team tallied a total 28 rebounds, 17 assists, six blocks and six steals.
The Knights will continue conference play at home Saturday hosting A-R-C rival Simpson College for Senior Day. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
