WAVERLY, Iowa - The Wartburg men's basketball team suffered an 87-73 loss to American Rivers Conference rival Simpson College on Saturday.
Starting off the first half of the game, the Knights and Storm were neck-in-neck scoring.Ā
At the 15:51 minute mark, freshman
Jack MolsteadĀ connected a layup to tie the game up 10-10.
The Storm responded seconds later to take a two point ahead. Simpson continued to take the lead for the remainder of the half.Ā
With just under a minute remaining, senior
Camry Moore hit a layup to bring the score back within three, trailing the Storm 43-40.
Moore opened the second half with a three to tie up the game. Simpson broke away until a three by junior
Ryan StulkenĀ trailed the Orange and Black by a point.
Sophomore
Drew Olson connected a layup to give Wartburg its first lead of the game with 14:10 remaining.
With seven minutes to go, Simpson reclaimed its lead after hitting a three. The Knights were unable to catch up, falling 87-73 to the Storm.
Moore led Wartburg with 15 points, followed by Olson who notched 13 points. Eight other Knights scored with 36 points coming from the bench. Wartburg was 12-of-18 in field goal shooting and 12-18 at the free throw line.
The Orange and Black tallied a total 37 rebounds, 15 assists and four steals.
The Knights, now 9-14 overall and 5-9 in conference, continues conference play on the road traveling to Dubuque on Wednesday, Feb. 19 to face Loras College. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
