AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Wartburg baseball team improved its win streak to five games on Thursday, March 6, sweeping Martine Luther College 5-3 and 4-3.
JoJo McNair tallied three hits and three runs batted in, while
Tyler Nunemaker and
Ben DeKruyf compiled two doubles each.
Wartburg 5, Martin Luther 3
After going down 3-0, the Knights battled back with a two-run third inning of an
Ethan Hayes 2-RBI double.
In the fourth through the sixth, the Orange & Black plated one each inning with sacrifice flies from
Joey Baumann,
Tyler Hovick, and McNair.
Dylan Gotto improved his record to 3-0 with his third complete game performance of the season, allowing three runs off five hits in seven innings.
Wartburg 4, Martin Luther 3
Nunemaker and McNair RBI hits granted Wartburg a 3-1 advantage through the second inning.
MLC answered with a pair of runs in the third inning to knot the score at 3-3 prior to the eventual game-winning RBI double from Hovick in the sixth inning, scoring Nunemaker.
On the mound,
Darren Kilpatrick started and went 3.1 innings.
Tony Rex pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
