DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Wartburg women's tennis team opened its 2020 fall season with a pair of wins in Dubuque on Saturday, defeating the University of Dubuque 9-0 during its American Rivers Conference opener along with a 7-0 win over Grandview University.

The Knights won the battle against the Spartans with ease earning a 9-0 sweep and started the A-R-C schedule with a victory. The closest match was between Olivia Phillips and Dubuque's Alyssa Stevenson in the No. 1 singles contest. After taking the first set, Phillips dropped the second before rallying to take the tiebreaker 1-0 (8). Bailey VanDusseldorp and Chihiro Ono each earned their first collegiate victories while Rebekah Corson, Sydney Powers and Sydney Rottinghaus all started their final campaign with wins.

Wartburg continued its strong performance against non-conference opponent Grand View, winning the contest 7-0. Freshmen VanDusseldorp recorded her first singles victory in the college ranks while fellow freshmen Ono stayed perfect on the day and received her second collegiate win. Sophomore Phillips and senior Corson finished the meet 2-0 after recording victories in singles play.
