Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Balanced Offense Lead #16 Knights to 11-0 Victory

WAVERLY, Iowa – #16 women's soccer ( 11-1-1, 4-0 A-R-C) extended its current win streak to five games after defeating Buena Vista University with a balanced offensive attack to win 11-0 at Salzwedel Field on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

The Knights offense spent most of the first half attacking Buena Vista's defense and came away with two goals going into halftime. Both goals came from Joy Smith, with the first coming in the 15th minute and the second in the 30th minute. The goals both came unassisted and marked Smith's ninth and tenth goal of the season.

The Orange & Black would go on to score nine goals in the second half, with seven different Knights finding the net and a shot advantage of 51-2. The first goal came in just the 46th minute when Rachael Christmann scored off a Smith assist to put her at three goals on the season.

The next two goals would come from Kate Luers with the first coming in the 52nd minute unassisted, and the next a successful penalty kick in the 57th minute to push the score to 5-0.

The next three goals came in less than a 10-minute span for the Orange & Black. Sarah Campbell had the first of the flurry when she recovered a deflected shot and fired it past the keeper in the 61st minute. Annie Place would score her first goal of the season in the 65th minute to make the score 7-0. Emily Fontana would add another goal in the 69th minute for her third goal of the season.

More Knights would score their first goal of the season when Quinn Hanigan found the net in the 70th minute and Kara Dobbs with a goal in the 72nd minute. Dobbs would also add one more goal in the 74th minute to make it 11-0.

The Knights defense allowed just two total shots in the match, and both were on goal. Marissa Lopez got the start at goalkeeper for the Orange & Black and recorded one save in one half of play. Emma Strong would get the start in the second half and play the whole half. Strong recorded her first save of the season in the contest after only seeing one shot in the half.
