Palen's Hat Trick Leads Knights to Fourth Straight Win

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg men's soccer (6-4-2, 3-1 A-R-C) defeated Buena Vista University 8-0 behind a first-half hat trick for Jack Palen to push the Knights winning streak to four on Tuesday, Oct 12.
 
The Orange & Black came out firing in the first half and would find the net in just the second minute of play, when Edvin Rizvic scored off a Caleb Halleran assist. The goal is Rizvic's third of the season.
 
The next two goals came just a minute apart, with the first coming in the sixth minute after Palen found the net off a Anzurni Kimba assist in the 6th minute for the first of his hat trick. Michael Dunn would score in the 7th minute off Halleran's second assist of the game and fourth of the season. The goal is Dunn's second on the year.
 
Palen would complete his first half hat trick with back-to-back goals in the 17th and 19th minute. The goal in the 17th came from a nice pass from Sam Thomann and the next would come off Kimba's second assist of the game. Palen is now at 13 goals this season, and the assists marked Thomann's first and Kimba's third of the year.
 
The Knights took a 5-0 lead into halftime.
 
Payton Chapman got the scoring started in the second half, when he converted a penalty kick in the 54th minute for his second goal of the season. Kolby Fahner would add another goal in the 80th minute  off a nice pass from Alex Stone. The goal marked Fahner's second of the year as well as Stone's second assist.
 
Eli Followwill would cap off the scoring with his first career goal for the Knights to make it a 8-0 final.
 
The Knights defense did not allow many shots in the contest and had an advantage in shots on goal of 16-2. In goal for the Knights, Patrick McMahon got the start and recorded two saves in 67:26 minutes of play. Brennon Woody would finish the game in goal but did not see one shot on goal. This is Wartburg's fourth straight shutout victory. 
 
Next Time Out
The Knights are in action next in Pella, Iowa as they take on Central College at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16.
