PELLA, Iowa – Wartburg men's soccer (7-4-2, 4-1 A-R-C) defeated Central College 2-0 on Saturday, Oct. 17 to win its fourth straight match in American Rivers Conference play.
The Knights offense got on the board early when
Cody Christoffersen found
Edvin Rizvic with a nice pass that was scored in the ninth minute. The goal marks Rizvic's fourth of the season and Christoffersen's second assist.
The Orange and Black took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half,
Jack Palen would add a penalty kick goal to make it 2-0 following a Central yellow card in the 59th minute. The converted penalty kick makes six total on the season for Palen, adding to his school record total this season. Palen has 14 goals for the Knights this season and paced the Knights offensively with three of the teams eight shots on goal.
The Knights defense continued their shutout streak with another stingy showing. Wartburg smothered all of Central's scoring opportunities in both halves. The Dutch were outshot 21-5 and trailed eight to zero to the Knights in shots on goal.
Patrick McMahon started and played all 90 minutes in goal for the Orange & Black.
