WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg men's soccer was edged 2-1 in double-overtime by Loras College in an American Rivers Conference battle.
The first half was fast paced and both teams got good looks on goal. The Knights outshot the Duhawks six to two in the first half, but all four of their shots on goal were saved by Loras.
The Duhawks got on the board in the 17
th minute when Kevin Kucaba scored off a Reed Miklavic assist to make the match 1-0.
The score would stay 1-0 until the final minute of regulation.
In the 90
th minute,
Payton Chapman fired a goal past the keeper from a free kick as time winded down to send the match into overtime. The goal is Chapman's third of the season for the Knights and second from a free kick attempt.
The match ended in the second overtime period when Wartburg's defense knocked in an own goal while defending a shot.
The Duhawks finished the match with a slight advantage in both shots (10-8) and shots on goal (6-5).
The Orange & Black's offense was paced by Chapman and
Tanner Shields. Chapman had the Knights lone goal and Shields recorded three shots and one shot on goal.
Jack Palen,
Cody Christoffersen and
Kolby Fahner also had one shot on goal.
Patrick McMahon started and played all 108 minutes in goal and recorded five saves in the match. Five saves tie a season high for McMahon.
The Orange & Black fall to 7-5-2 and 4-2 in A-R-C play.
Next Time Out
The Knights travel to Lincoln, Neb. to take on Nebraska Wesleyan University in an A-R-C matchup with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
