LINCOLN, Neb. – Wartburg men's soccer (7-6-2, 4-3 A-R-C) fell on the road to Nebraska Wesleyan University 2-0 on Saturday, Oct. 23 in an American Rivers Conference matchup.
NWU got on the board first in the 39
th minute when Caleb Voss scored an unassisted goal. The Prairie Wolves would score again just four minutes later when Jackson McGowan assisted Jakob Hulquest to make it 2-0.
Nebraska Wesleyan had an advantage in total shots in the first half six to five and both teams recorded three shots on goal. The score would stay 2-0 going into halftime.
The second half was a stalemate that saw good defensive play from both sides. Neither team was able to convert any scoring opportunities in the second half.
The Knights offense was paced by
Sam Thomann who led the Knights with four shots and one on goal.
Payton Chapman and
Edvin Rizvic added two attempts with one on goal each for the Orange & Black.
In goal for the Knights,
Patrick McMahon played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves. McMahon now has 30 saves on the season.
The Prairie Wolves would finish the match with a slight edge in shots, 12-11, and shots on goal seven to six.
Next Time Out
The Knights are in action next against Luther College to wrap up the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 26 in Decorah, Iowa with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
