LINCOLN, Neb. – No. 16 women's soccer (13-2-1, 6-1 A-R-C) defeated Nebraska Wesleyan University 5-1 in an American Rivers Conference match on Saturday, Oct. 23.
The Knights took control early with three goals scored in the first half.
Joy Smith netted the first goal for the Orange & Black in the 21
st minute off an unassisted shot. The goal marks Smith's 11
th of the season. Just four minutes later,
Gabby Corday beat the keeper to make the match 2-0. The goal was assisted by
Lauren Kirkle and it was Corday's fourth goal of the season as well Kirkle's fourth assist on the year.
Wartburg added another goal before half when
Quinn Hanigan scored in the 38
th minute for her second goal this season.
Kate Luers added two goals in the second half for the Knights to push the lead out to 5-0. The first of her two came in the 83
rd minute and then she followed it with a goal in the 85
th minute. Both goals were unassisted, and it pushes Luers' season total to nine goals.
The Prairire Wolves scored their lone goal of the match in the 86
th minute when Morgan Finley converted a penalty kick attempt to make it 5-1.
The Knights outshot NWU 22-6 in total shots and 10-6 in shots on goal. Wartburg also dominated corner kicks 13-1.
In goal for the Knights,
Marissa Lopez played 52 minutes and recorded one save with one shot faced.
Emma Strong got time in goal in relief of Lopez and played 38 minutes with two saves recorded.

The Orange & Black are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m. for a road match at Luther College to close the regular season.
