Men's Soccer Set to Wrap Up Regular Season at Luther

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg men's soccer is slated to close the 2021 regular season with an American Rivers Conference match at 7:30 p.m. against Luther College.

Last Time Out
In its last contest, Wartburg was defeated 2-0 by Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Neb. on Saturday, Oct. 23.
 
Both Prairie Wolves' goals came in the first half of the match to take a 2-0 lead into half. No goals were scored in the second half despite opportunities on both sides.
 
The Knights offense was paced by Sam Thomann who led the Knights with four shots and one on goal. Payton Chapman and Edvin Rizvic added two attempts with one on goal each for the Orange & Black.
 
In goal for the Knights, Patrick McMahon played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves. The Prairie Wolves would finish the match with a slight edge in shots, 12-11, and shots on goal seven to six.
 
Wartburg
The Orange & Black are outscoring opponents this season 34-20 with 21 of those goals coming off assists. Wartburg is averaging 2.27 goals per game with 14 shots per game. The offense is led by Jack Palen, who has totaled 30 points this season from 14 goals and two assists.
 
The Knight's defense has allowed an average of 1.33 goals per game from 10.5 shots per game through 15 games. The Knights have six shutout victories through 15 games. McMahon has started the last nine matches and recorded 856:06 minutes in goal for the Knights. McMahon has 30 saves with a save percentage of 76.9% in 10 games played.
 
Luther
The Norse lost their last contest 2-0 against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Friday, Oct. 22.
 
Luther's offense is led by Will Overberg and Marcos Vila, who both have totaled 30 or more points this season. Overberg has recorded 13 goals and seven assists for a total of 33 points, and Vila has 12 goals with six assists through 17 games played.
 
The Norse defense is led by goalkeeper Carson Davenport, who has started all 17 games and recorded 1554:29 minutes in goal. Davenport has a save percentage of 72.7% and recorded 56 saves so far this season.
 
Luther leads Wartburg in the all-time series 24-19-2, but the Knights have won the last two contests.
