Men's Soccer Set to Hit the Road for A-R-C Matchup

WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg men's soccer is slated for an American Rivers Conference match against Simpson College on Saturday, Oct. 9 in Indianola, Iowa with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.

Wartburg Knights (4-4-2, 1-1 A-R-C) at Simpson Storm (4-4-1, 2-0 A-R-C)

Last Time Out
The Knights have won their last two matches coming into Saturday's contest with a combined score of 8-0. The last time in action, Wartburg defeated Hamline University 3-0 behind a hat trick from senior Jack Palen.
 
Palen scored from a variety of ways Saturday, the first and only goal of the first half came from a penalty kick in the 27th minute. The penalty kick is Palen's fifth converted penalty kick on the season. In the second half, the second goal came off a great pass from Caleb Halleran that Palen would finish in the 59th minute. The final goal came in the 90th minute from a free kick to complete Palen's career day.
 
Over the last two games the Wartburg defense has allowed zero goals, five total shots and only two shots on goal. Patrick McMahon has started four games for the Knights and has recorded two shutout victories, 13 saves and a save percentage of 72.2%.
 
Simpson College
Simpson comes into this contest with a 4-4-1 overall record and a 2-0 record in the A-R-C. The Storm have won their last two matches, both coming against A-R-C opponents. The Storm's last time in action was a 2-1 victory against Central College at home.
 
The Storm is led offensively by junior midfielder Jordy Triana-Vasquez who has complied seven goals and three assists for a total of 17 points in nine games. There are six players that have at least one goal for the Storm this season.  In goal for Simpson, freshman William Kopp has started all nine matches, and in those matches he has recorded 35 saves and a save percentage of 72.9%.
 
In the last 10 matchups, Simpson leads the series 5-3-2 over Wartburg, but the Knights won the last matchup 2-1 at Salzwedel Field in 2020.
