DUBUQUE, Iowa – No. 2 seeded Wartburg women's soccer was defeated 4-1 by No. 1 seeded Loras College in the American Rivers Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday, Nov. 6.
After 20 minutes of scoreless play in the first half, Loras' offense came alive with three goals between the 25
th and the 42
nd minute of play. Goal scorers for the Duhawks were Ryleigh O'Brien, Hannah Schmitz and Savanah Johnson.
The score was 3-0 in favor of Loras heading into halftime. The Duhawks controlled time of possession throughout the first and outshot the Knights 10-1 and 4-0 in shots on goal.
Loras tacked on another goal in the 53
rd minute to push the score to 4-0.
In the second half, Wartburg's offense was able to outshoot the Duhawks nine to four in total shots and four to three in shots on goal. The Knights got on the board in the 90
th minute when
Sarah Campbell scored her fifth goal of the season to make the final score four to one in favor of Loras.
Marissa Lopez played all 90 minutes in goal for the Knights and finished with four saves. Campbell paced the Knights offensively with the lone goal and
Emily Fontana led the team in shots attempted with three.
