WAVERLY, Iowa - The No. 23-ranked Wartburg College volleyball team defeated American Rivers Conference opponent Buena Vista University 3-1 Friday, Feb. 5 at Levick Arena.
The Knights, down 1-0 after the first set, came back to down the Beavers in four sets to improve their overall record to 3-2 and 3-1 during A-R-C action.
The match opened with the first set going to extras, with both teams struggling to find consistency, combining for 19 errors. BVU forced 11 Wartburg errors and came out on top, 31-29 to gain the 1-0 advantage.Â
Wartburg bounced back after the slow start to down Buena Vista 25-15, 25-20, 25-15. The Knights hit .343 in the second set and notched 16 kills in the final frame while limiting the visitors to a .056 attack percentage.Â
Zaiah Quirk led the Orange & Black offense with a career-high 20 kills, attacking efficiently with a .429 attacking percentage.
Claire Marsh set up the attack with a team-high 25 assists and also added four serving aces.
Katie Foster paced the defense with 24 digs.
Up next, Wartburg heads to Luther College on Tuesday, March 9. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Regents Center Gymnasium in Decorah, Iowa.
