DUBUQUE, Iowa - Wartburg men's soccer was defeated for the second time this season when it fell 3-1 to Loras College on Tuesday, April 13 at the Rock Bowl. Senior
Jack Palen registered his third goal of the season in the match.Â
The Knights (3-2 A-R-C) will now move their sights to Central College (2-2-1 A-R-C) when the two programs matchup on Saturday, April 17 in Waverly at Salzwedel Field with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.Â
Loras got on the board early when the Knights knocked in an own goal off a miscued defensive header in the 10th minute. Wartburg totaled two shots in the opening period and much of the half favored the Duhawks. Tigrio Huerta and Reed Miklavcic each scored in a span of eight minutes down the stretch and the Knights went into the break facing a three-goal deficit.Â
Momentum started to swing in favor of the Orange & Black in the second half as they out shot Loras 7-6. The Knights cut into the Duhawks' lead in the 72nd minute when Palen tallied a goal off a pass from junior
Tanner Shields. The Knights forced Loras goalkeeper Seth Kurzynski into four saves in the second half but the late rally was not enough as Wartburg fell 3-1.Â
In an intense game that saw eight yellow cards, the two teams combined for 33 fouls. The Knights held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal while sophomore netminder
