WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg men's soccer upended Central College 4-0 on Saturday, April 17 at Salzwedel Field and improved to 4-2 in the American Rivers Conference.
Edvin Rizvic paced the Knights with three shots and two goals.Â
The Orange & Black (4-2 A-R-C) will be back in action on Wednesday, April 21 when they host Luther College (4-1-1 A-R-C) at Salzwedel Field with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.Â
The Knights got on the board early in the match when senior
Jack Palen registered his fourth goal of the season off a feed from sophomore
Payton Chapman in the 7th minute. Sophomore Rizvic tallied his first of the contest just five minutes later when Chapman found him at the top of the box and Rizvic curled his attempt into the right corner.Â
Sophomore goaltender
Brennon Woody was called upon in the 23rd minute when the Dutch were award a penalty kick. However, Woody was up for the task and made the diving save to keep Central off the board. The rest of the first half was back-and-forth as Wartburg held a 6-5 advantage on shots and took a 2-0 lead into the intermission.Â
Central controlled the run of play for much of the second half but failed to convert on its opportunities. Wartburg made it a three-goal game when sophomore
Max Siade-Cox recorded his first tally of the season off an assist from junior
Tanner Shields. The icing on the cake came from Rizvic once more as he capped off his two-goal contest in the 87th minute off a pass from
Caleb Halleran.Â
The Dutch out shot Wartburg 12-11 but the Knights held a 7-3 advantage on shots on goal while corner kicks were even at four apiece. Woody made three saves in the contest and improved to 3-2 on the year.Â
