WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg lacrosse suffered a 16-7 defeat against the University of Northwestern in the final home contest of the season at the Wartburg Lacrosse Field.

Bri Greiskalns led the Knights with three goals apiece.Â
The Orange & Black (1-8, 1-3 MWL) will continue conference play on Saturday, April 17 when they travel to Monmouth, Ill. for a matchup against Monmouth College (0-5, 0-3 A-R-C) at 3 p.m.Â
The Knights fell into a five-goal deficit in the opening seven minutes before junior Greiskalns registered her first tally of the contest. Sophomore
Lindsay Langford and Greiskalns scored consecutive goals midway through the first half to cut the Northwestern lead to four. The Eagles recorded the final three goals of the half and into the break with a seven-goal advantage.Â
After Northwestern opened the scoring in the second period, the Knights responded well with a 3-0 run of their own. Mahoney doubled up with two tallies in a span of 54 seconds and Greiskalns completed her fifth straight hat trick.Â
The Eagles regained control for the rest of the match with a 5-1 run. Junior Mahoney earned her first career hat trick when she tallied the final goal of the contest with 3:26 remaining but Northwestern would win the game, 16-7.Â
The Knights were out shot 38-21 in the match but held an 18-7 advantage in draw controls and a 47-34 lead in ground balls. Wartburg went 9-of-19 on its clear attempts.

Brittney Shipman recorded eight saves.Â
