WAVERLY, Iowa - The Wartburg College women's soccer team defeated Central College 1-0 at Salzwedel Field Saturday afternoon, remaining undefeated during the 2021 spring American Rivers Conference schedule.
The Knights improve their record to 6-0 with their sixth consecutive shutout.
Sarah Campbell scored the lone goal, her second of the season. Assisted by
Kate Luers, Campbell provided her second game-winning tally of the year at the 19th minute. Her shot near the right corner spot was chipped over the Central goalkeeper.Â
Leading 1-0 at the break, the home team held a 7-6 shot lead over the Dutch through the first 45 minutes.Â
Wartburg came out strong in the second period and held the momentum throughout the rest of the match, outshooting Central 12-2 with a 4-0 corner kick lead.
Marissa Lopez made a pair of saves in goal for the Knights, improving her record to 6-0 with her fourth shutout.
Up next, Wartburg hosts Luther College next Wednesday, April 21 at Salzwedel Field for the season finale with a shot at the A-R-C title. The Knights' previously scheduled season finale versus Nebraska Wesleyan University was canceled.Â
