STORM LAKE, Iowa - The No. 14-ranked Wartburg College softball team rallied for an 8-6 win during the American Rivers Conference series finale at Buena Vista Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Knights improve to 21-6 overall and 12-5 during conference action.
Buena Vista scored a pair in the first and four in the second inning to claim an early 6-0 lead before Wartburg responded with eight unanswered runs.
Tarah Wehde started for the Knights in the pitcher's circle and lasted 1.1 innings upon being relieved by
Madison Hiestand.
In the fifth inning, Wartburg tied the game with six runs off four hits and one BVU error. With two outs,
Kaylie Springer reached on a bunt single and came around to score the Knights' first run on a
Kaci Sherwood 2-RBI single.
Leah Campos followed with a two-run triple and then scored off a double from Wehde. Wartburg added another run on an error to knot the game at 6-6.
In the seventh, Sherwood recorded the game-winning RBI with a leadoff solo homer, her conference-leading 13th on the year.
Ella Link produced a sacrifice fly to push the score to 8-6.
Ashley Nelson came in to relieve Hiestand in the fourth inning and threw 3.1 scoreless innings, earning the win to improve her record to 7-1 on the year.
Up next, Wartburg heads to Decorah, Iowa on Saturday, April 24 to round out its series with Luther College.
