Men's Soccer Prepares for Final Two Matches

WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg men's soccer will conclude its 2021 spring season this week with matches against Luther College on Wednesday, April 21 and Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 24 at Salzwedel Field. The contest against Luther will begin at 7:30 p.m. while the game against the Prairie Wolves is set for 1 p.m.

Wartburg Knights (4-2 A-R-C) vs Luther College (4-1-1 A-R-C)

Wartburg's game versus Luther will be streamed via Facebook Live.

Saturday, April 24 - 1:00 p.m. - Waverly, Iowa - Salzwedel Field
Wartburg Knights (4-2 A-R-C) vs Nebraska Wesleyan University (2-4 A-R-C)

Spectators are permitted to attend Wartburg outdoor athletic events and are required to follow campus masking and social distancing guidelines. Fans must all wear face masks outdoors when we cannot absolutely guarantee a physical distance of at least six feet from others. Details HERE.

Last Time Out
The Knights went 1-1 during last week's matches against Central and Loras College. The Orange & Black fell to the Duhawks 3-1 on Tuesday then turned around and defeated Central 4-0 on Saturday. Sophomore Edvin Rizvic led Wartburg with two-goals in the contest against the Dutch while senior Jack Palen tallied the lone goal for the Knights against Loras. Sophomore goalkeeper Brennon Woody competed in both games and totaled a combined four saves. 

Season Stats
The Knights are averaging 2.83 tallies per game on 12.3 shots with a shot on goal percentage of 56.8%. Palen paces Wartburg with four goals while sophomore Payton Chapman leads the team and conference with five assists. Netminder Woody has started in all six games this season and has allowed just six goals with a save percentage of 72.7%. Wartburg currently sits in fourth place in the conference. 

Luther College
The Norse enter the match following a 3-0 victory over Simpson College on Saturday, April 17. Luther sits in third place in the A-R-C with a 4-1-1 record with its only loss of the year coming against the University of Dubuque in overtime. In the six games, Luther has conceded a total of six goals and has knocked in 17 of its own.

The Norse average 15.5 shots per contest, including a shot on goal percentage of 62.4%. Marcos Vila leads the programs with a team-high six goals while Faydane Ouro-Akondo and Will Overberg are both tied with a team-best four assists. Carson Davenport has started in net for Luther in every game this season and has a goals against average of .96 and a save percentage of 72.7%. 

Nebraska Wesleyan University
The Prairie Wolves will compete against Simpson College on Wednesday, April 21 before traveling to Waverly for a matchup against Wartburg. NWU have a 2-4 record and are in seventh place in the conference. The Prairie Wolves' two victories are against Buena Vista (3-2) and Coe (2-1 2OT).  

The Prairie Wolves average 8.7 shots per contest, including a shot on goal percentage of 51.9%. NWU also score 1.33 goals per game and give up 2.33 tallies. Alex Aguiular and Thomas Distefano lead the program with a team-high two goals while Alex Kohler has a team-best three assists. Zachary Selph has started in net for NWU in five games this season and has a goals against average of 2.49 and a save percentage of 68.6%.
