WAVERLY, Iowa - Wartburg lacrosse fell just short against Augsburg University on Saturday, April 3 when it suffered a 20-12 defeat at the Wartburg Lacrosse Field. Junior
Bri Greiskalns had a career day as she tallied seven goals, three assists and 10 points.Â
The Knights (0-7, 0-2 MWL) will continue conference play when they travel to Mount Vernon, Iowa for a matchup against Cornell College (3-1, 0-0 MWL) on Saturday, April 10 at 11 a.m.
The Orange & Black went down 2-0 in the opening seven minutes before Greiskalns scored her first of the day. Augsburg returned the favor with two goals of its own to push its lead to three. The Knights then rattled off a 5-0 run when
Lindsay Langford (2), Greiskalns (2) and
Olivia Christianson (1) all recorded goals to push Wartburg ahead by two tallies.The Auggies responded well down the stretch and scored two unanswered and tied the match going into halftime.Â
The opening portion of the second was back-and-forth as each team traded goals. Freshman
Ellie Johnson got on the score sheet at the 27th minute mark in the second half and grabbed Wartburg's second lead of the game. After a mini scoring run by Augsburg, Greiskalns was able to stop the bleeding for the Knights and tied the game. The Auggies then went on a 11-3 run to end the match and took the victory.Â
The Knights tallied a season-high 35 shots, including 22 on net. Wartburg was 11-of-12 on clear attempts and had a 20 to 14 advantage in draw controls. Greiskalns scored her fifth hat trick and third straight. Freshman
Brittney Shipman made her fourth appearance in goal for the Knights and made two saves.Â
