CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Wartburg women's soccer tallied two goals in the first half and one in the second to down Coe College on Saturday, April 3 at Clark Field and Track in Cedar Rapids. The Knights are now on a seven-game unbeaten run against the Kohawks.
The Orange & Black (3-0 A-R-C) will switch their focus to Simpson College (1-0-1 A-R-C) when the two programs meet on Saturday, April 10 at 5 p.m. at Salzwedel Field in Waverly.
The Knights had a strong first-half performance when they tallied two goals in the opening frame. Junior
Annie Place got things going for Wartburg at the 13th minute mark when she scored her second of the season. The Orange & Black pushed their lead to two just five minutes later when senior
Emily Fontana found the back of the net for the second consecutive contest.
Wartburg controlled the first half as they held a 9-0 advantage in shots and corner kicks stood at 3-0 in favor of the Knights. Wartburg entered the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The Orange & Black continued their dominance in the second period. The half remained scoreless until freshman
Rachel Gavin registered her second goal of the season in the 80th minute. Wartburg stayed focus in the final moments of the game and recorded its third straight shutout.
Wartburg ended the match with a 23-2 advantage in shots and a 13-1 lead in shots on goal. Corner kicks also favored the Knights, 8-1. Gavin paced Wartburg with five shots while junior goalkeeper
Marissa Lopez was credited with her third win behind one save.
