Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Swept by No. 15 Kohawks

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Wartburg baseball concluded its weekend series against No. 15 Coe College on Saturday, May 8 and suffered three losses at Daniels Park on Bill Quinby Field. The Knights wrapped up game two of the series this morning after the contest was suspended due to darkness yesterday.

Coe 7, Wartburg 6 (12 inn.)
After the game was suspended due to darkness on Friday, May 7, the two teams return to the diamond this morning and resumed play in the 12th. The Knights were held scoreless in the top of the inning and the Kohawks walked it off when Nolan Cavanaugh hit a RBI that scored Jordan Kaplan.

The Orange & Black finished the game with nine hits and five RBIs. TJ Deardorff was credited with the win on the mound and Joey Ciero moved to 2-4 this season. Parker Ridge led the Knights with three hits.

Coe 7, Wartburg 1
Wartburg struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the third game of the weekend series. After a scoreless opening frame, the Kohawks tallied a run in the next four innings and kept the Knights off the board.

Zach Walton registered the lone RBI for the Orange & Black in the sixth inning when he flied out to center field and scored Max Goodhue.

Coe responded well with three runs of its own in the bottom half of sixth and halted the Knights' momentum in the seventh to take the 7-1 victory.

Wartburg ended the game with four hits and one RBI. Deardorff improved to 8-0 while Ciero dropped to 2-5. Goodhue led the Knights with two hits.

Coe 14, Wartburg 4 (8 inn.)
The Kohawks' bats continued to stay hot in the final contest of the weekend as they totaled five runs in the opening two innings.

Wartburg got on the board when Brett Kelting singled and brought in Walton during the fourth frame. Coe tallied three runs in the inning and threw salt on the Knights' wound in the fifth with another two runs.

After a scoreless sixth, Wartburg started to get things going and scored two runs in the seventh. Goodhue and Walton each added a RBI to their stats and brought the contest within six runs. However, Coe responded with two runs off a Deardorff single and duplicated its efforts in the eighth, which ended the game with the score 14-4.

Wartburg tallied nine hits and three RBIs while Goodhue paced the team with three hits. On the mound, Matthew Mittelmark was awarded the victory for Coe while Jacob Murray fell to 3-4 on the year.
