WAVERLY, Iowa— With a win in the record books for the 2021 season, the Wartburg Knights football team is set to return to action for their first road test. The Knights will face the Golden Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus on Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.

Scouting the Golden Gusties
In their return to the field, the Gusties posted an 80-58 victory over Buena Vista University. Gustavus set a program record for points in a game, rushed for 300 yards, and recorded 635 total yards of offense.
The Gustavus' Andrew Abegglen earned MIAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Abegglen set a program record 11 extra points in the Gustavus win, with 11-for-11 PAT tries and a 24-yard field goal.
Heading into this weekend's game, the Knights and Golden Gusties have met twice in program history. The Knights have won both previous times, with the last meeting on Sept. 10, 2011.
Weekly Honors
Ben Bryant was named Special Teams Player of the Week as announced by the American Rivers Conference. Bryant was a vital part of regaining ground for the Knights on special teams and punt returns as they cruised to a 44-3 victory over Monmouth College. The Western Dubuque prep returned five punts for a total of 98 yards, with a long of 39 yards. Additionally, he returned one kickoff for 21 yards.
