LA CROSSE, Wis. – Wartburg women's soccer moves to 4-0 after hitting the road for a neutral site 2-0 win against Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, Sept. 11.
The first score of the game came in the 17
th minute when
Joy Smith extended her consecutive games with a goal streak to three. Smith's goal would give the Knights an early 1-0 lead and it marks goal number three for Smith on the season.
The Orange & Black would tack another goal on in the first half to make it 2-0. The score came off a
Lauren Kirkle goal that got past the keeper and found the top of the net. The goal is Kirkle's third of the season.
The first half would end with a 2-0 lead for the Knights. Illinois Wesleyan led Wartburg in shots 12-9 in t half, but the schools were even in shots on goal with four a piece. The Titans also led the Knights in corner kicks four to one.
The second half was a defensive struggle with both teams posting four shots each and no goals. The final shot total would favor Illinois Wesleyan 16-13, and each ended with five shots on goal.
Joy Smith paced the Knights offensively with three shots and a goal and
Marissa Lopez played the full game in goal and recorded five saves.

The Knights will continue their season with a match Sunday, Sept. 12 in La Crosse, Wis. against Dominican University (Ill.).
