WAVERLY, Iowa – Wartburg men's soccer were back in action at Salzwedel Field Sunday, Sept 12 where they were defeated by the North Central College Cardinals 2-0.
In the 19
th minute, the Cardinals struck first with a goal from Aiden Westerberg that was dropped in over the keeper to make it 1-0.
The North Central goal would be the only score in the first half despite opportunities from both sides. The Knights went into the half leading in shots, but every goal-scoring opportunity was stopped from a stingy Cardinal defense.
In the second half, Jack Fairwood would add to the North Central lead with a header that found the net after an assist off the corner kick from Aiden Westerberg in the 68
th minute.
The Orange & Black would have late opportunities to score but struggled to get shots on goal in today's contest. The Knights finished the game with an advantage in both shots and corner kicks but trailed in shots on goal four to two.
The Knights were led offensively by
Tanner Shields and
Cody Christoffersen who each recorded two shot attempts with one being on goal.
Brennon Woody played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves.

Wartburg will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 18 when they travel to Whitewater, Wis. to face the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
