WAVERLY, Iowa - #13 women's soccer was edged 1-0 by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Tuesday, Sept. 21 for its first loss of the season.

The contest featured two regionally ranked teams according to the United Soccer Coaches regional poll with Wartburg at the no. 1 position and UW-La Crosse coming in at no. 4.

The first half saw little offense from either team, with Wartburg having attempted four shots and UW-La Crosse with two. The half would continue to be evenly match throughout and at halftime the score remained 0-0.
The first and only goal of the game came from an own goal in the 56
th minute after a shot was saved but knocked back in by a Knight to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
The Orange & Black fought hard in the second half and made a late push on offense. Wartburg would have multiple scoring chances in the second half with shots coming very close but were unable to convert the opportunities into goals.Â
In goal for the Knights today,
Marissa Lopez logged all 90 minutes and recorded six total saves, five of which came in the second half. The Orange & Black had an advantage in both shots and corner kicks but trailed in shots on goal 6-1.
UW-La Crosse moves to 5-1-1 on the season and Wartburg is now 6-1-1.
