Knights Explosive Second Half, Earns First A-R-C Win

Knights Hand Coe Their First Loss

WAVERLY, Iowa—An explosive second half effort by the Wartburg College Knights led to a 28-7 victory over Coe College Kohawks in the Knights conference opener.
 
The Knights handed Coe their first loss of the season as the Knights defense scored on an interception and on a punt return in the fourth quarter.  
 
Scoring Plays
 

  • Kain Eagle broke the stalemate, making his first field goal attempt of the day to start the second quarter.
  • Eagle, who was 2-of-3 for field goals, made his second attempt with just under a minute remaining in the first half as the Knights took a 6-0 lead at the break.
  • Carter Maske of the Kohawks had a 3-yard rush with 7:14 remaining in the third quarter. Evan Ellis made the point-after as the Kohawks took a 7-6 lead over the Knights.
  • A muffed punt by Coe gave the Knights back the ball at the Coe 14-yard line. Jace Moore would connect with Brett Meyer for the Knights first touchdown of the game. Moore connected with JoJo McNair in the 2-point conversion as the Knights regained the lead at 14-7.
  • McNair had a 64-yard punt return in the fourth quarter with 9:21 remaining in the game.
  • Nate Link had a pick-six from Coe's Matt Walton with just under six minutes remaining. The Knights took a 28-7 lead on Eagle's point-after from the interception.
 
A Look at the Numbers
 
  • The Knights recorded 22 first downs and had 373 total offensive yards. The Knights had 10 rushing first downs, while totaling 11 passing downs.
  • Moore was 26-of-34 in the quarterback slot, with 204 passing yards.
  • Link led the Knights defense with 11 tackles, while Eli Barrett and Antonio Santillan recorded nine each.
  • The Knights defense had three sacks, three pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one interception.
  • Barrett recorded a forced fumble and a pass breakup in the contest.
  • Eagle was brought out for two punts, averaging 36.5 yards per punt. On kickoffs, Eagle averaged 53.3 yards per kick. Additionally, Eagle made both point-after attempts for the Knights.
Key Players
 
  • McNair had one punt return for 64-yards and two kickoff returns for a total of 80 yards. McNair had four tackles, including a tackle-for-loss in the contest. McNair recorded 11 offensive yards and one touchdown.
  • Link had an interception, that was returned for a touchdown. Additionally, Link recorded 11 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and one sack.
  • Barrett recorded nine touchdowns, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup in the game.
  • Ben Bryant led the Knights in the rushing yards category with 60 total yards on six attempts.
  • Brett Meyer led the Knights in receiving yards with 36.
  • Moore had 26 completed passes, with the longest pass for 36-yards. Moore had seven rushes for 22 yards.
